So I Went to a Card Class, part 1: Set Sail dies (Fair Winds collection) from Spellbinders

It has been a long time since I've been to a class at a local papercraft store. When I saw the samples, though, I needed to go!

Each card featured a different die set from the Fair Winds collection from Spellbinders. When looking up the sets on the Spellbinders site, I discovered that they were designed by Dawn Woleslagle. When I looked up the sets online via a search engine, the YouTube video was by Dawn herself. It turns out that her business is called WPlus9. At one time, WPlus9 had an online stamping business, although now that website no longer works. Instead, it appears that Dawn now designs for several other companies, including Spellbinders.

The first card that we made in the class used the Set Sail die set

These dies are so detailed! The boat includes thin "rope" supports, to which I attached the sails.

The boat's body is connected to that, and then there's a die to color the side, as well as another piece for the windshield/deck area.

Did you notice the shaped wave under the boat? That piece is actually larger--it was designed to create the wake from the boat, in order to show movement. Wow!

Then there are those clouds. Beside the bigger shapes, there are smaller ones (and you line them up by the edges!) that provide a more realistic look.

Oh, and you can use the clouds as greenery, as I did here! Just trim any excess off after gluing it to the card.

Finally, the sun. The class presenter gave us some strips of red, yellow, and orange paper, and had us glue them side-by-side on backing paper. Then we cut them out with a circle die (you could also use a circle punch).

This was card #1 of 3. I'll share the other cards in the next few days.
